Make sure you mitigate your damage

If your business has been hit by a fire or flood, it’s your responsibility in the immediate aftermath to protect your premises from further damage or theft. So take action immediately. If you need advice on what you should do, then contact the FLA. Our members have years of experience of working with businesses in your position and they can help to ensure this disaster doesn’t escalate.

Don’t cut cover in the recession

The FLA welcomes the British Insurance Brokers Association’s advice that businesses must not reduce their insurance cover during difficult economic times to cut costs. In our experience, this poses a significant financial risk if disaster strikes.

Members of the FLA work with businesses in the wake of disasters such as floods or fires to expedite their insurance claim. Under-insurance can cause considerable extra difficulties at what is already a stressful time. We urge businesses to keep their cover at the right level.

If you are having difficulties with an insurance claim through under-insurance then contact the FLA for our advice on your best options.

UK braced for more floods

Just when we thought it was over, there is more heavy rainfall on the way. There are three flood warnings in place for the north east and 59 flood watches over the rest of the country. Flooding of homes and businesses is therefore expected. If you are flooded, then the FLA suggests you contact a professional loss assessor immediate who will be able to help resolve your insurance claim.

A flood of claims

There have been unprecendented levels of insurance claims in the wake of the recent cold weather. According to Sainsbury’s finance, the UK insurance industry has received almost 16,000 insurance claims relating to water damage. These claims are worth approximately £35 million.

A significant number of these claims were as a result of homeowners turning off their heating before going away.

Protecting against the arctic weather

As we face the coldest winter for 30 years, it’s important that householders take every precaution to protect themselves against arctic temperatures. This particularly includes lagging pipes in the loft space – water damage from burst pipes can cause enormous damage throughout your home.

If disaster does strike and you need to make an insurance claim, make sure you have a reputable professional on your side. To find out more about the services of a loss assessor, contact the FLA.
